Our Mission
The
Odyssey Charter School’s mission is to prepare students
for a lifelong enthusiasm for learning, a keen awareness
of world citizenship, and an ability to think
independently and creatively through participation in a
focused foreign language program. The
curriculum integrates the learning of a second language,
along with the English language, to teach a rigorous
curriculum of reading, writing, math, science, and
social studies.
Our Goals and Educational Objectives
To
provide Odyssey Charter School students an enriched
learning environment that will:
·
Enable children to excel academically by
providing an innovative and standards based curriculum, while developing strong thinking and problem solving
skills.
·
Enhance each student’s understanding of Math,
English, Science, and other Western languages by
utilizing the Modern Greek language as a vehicle to
explore the roots of vocabulary, mathematical concepts,
and scientific theories.
. Significantly strengthen
the mathematical comprehension and performance of
students by devoting two blocks of instructional time
(taught in Greek and English) to this essential core
subject.
.
Help children develop a broader world view
through exposure to other cultures.
·
Teach children the value of citizenship and
help children develop an appreciation for democracy and
diversity.
·
Respect and nurture each child’s special qualities
while helping them feel valued and eager to succeed.
· Engender
greater community involvement in various phases of the
education process, including tutoring, mentoring,
classroom instruction, and field enrichment trips.
Who We Are
The Odyssey Charter School is a non-profit 501(c)(3) education-based
organization managed by a Governing Board and By-Laws within
prescribed guidelines as authorized under State of Delaware
Department of Education regulations for charter schools.
Supporting the efforts of the Odyssey Charter School Board is a
significant and well-respected organization, the American Hellenic
Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA). The AHEPA, a non-profit
philanthropic organization founded in 1922, continually pursues the
development of new and more responsive ways to create a better
learning environment for children of today and tomorrow. This
charitable foundation offers scholarships on a broad, national basis
to a wide variety of students to promote an awareness of the
principles of Hellenism to people outside the Greek-American
community, and believes that its ideals should be experienced by all
for generations to come. |
